All Done!

My hope for working with children in this field is that we have less humanity battles to fight.  My wish is for the newest little ones that I work with to know and feel that all facets of themselves are human, relevant, regular and allowable.  I want to make them feel as comfortable as possible and not feel the need to hide anything from anyone.

My goal is to make my students feel and see that their lives, and the lives of those around them can always be as happy as it is in Pre-K.  I want to give them the best launch possible and be as sensitive as possible to the needs of them and those around them.

Thank you to my professor, for the professor that filled in, my many classmates and my family for their dialogue, their professionalism, and their push this semester.  I am almost done, and its a struggle everytime, but we are almost there.  Thank you all!

Don't Stare!

As a child when we see something that is not the norm, we tend to stare at it until we figure it out.  I did it and, I can distinctly remember my children doing it.  When I caught it, I would scold them, and depending on how severe it was, snap, "Don't STARE!"  Staring is not a way to deal with difference but it is a go to for people who are trying to process differences.  The staring was at someone with a missing limb, burns on most of their body, or something that made them look physically different, move very differently, or even a disorder that made them act very different.  My children, and admittedly myself when I was younger, tried to figure it out by visual processing.  This on the outside, looks harmful, rude, and like the child has not been trained, but they are just processing.

As an early childhood professional, I would calmly explain to the child that it is not nice to stare at people however, instead of leaving the issue at that, I would explain that staring makes people uncomfortable and can sometimes even make  the person feel insignificant and less than a person.  I think that a child could understand if the right wording was used.

I would also address why the child felt the need to stare, address the difference that was seen and help the child understand why the person is different.  I think that people just snap at children out of their own embarrassment, and their won lack of prepardness in addressing the issue that stems from the incident.
Being open, being prepared for a child's curiosity, and unintentional rude behavior can lead to learning possibilities and the opportunity for a child to walk away more exposed, more understanding, and a whole lot less likely to stare if handled correctly.

Slanders Anyone?

  • I think it is befitting to talk about the LGBT community as next month is gay pride month. I think that most people born before about 1970 had a bit of readjusting to do with the openness in which gay love and lifestyle was thrust into the spotlight and negotiated.  It did not matter whether you identified with gay or straight... talking about sexual orientation was always so taboo....not so anymore...it is now so commonplace.  Many of my peers had to adjust to having two mothers coming to pick up their child.  It was not that we were so much opposed, it was just different....I made the adjustment with my coworkers.  We all adjusted together. It was a natural adjustment. We helped each other and each other...especially when the kids began to ask each other why certain kids had two mothers. We helped them to understand that there were many different types of families.  It was eye opening and beautiful for all involved.

Preschoolers don't seem to engage in name calling when it comes to sexual orientation....my daughters high school students do however....she must constantly remind them that being"gay" is not an insult or an insultary adjective, but a lifestyle....

Transgender has even made its way to a soap that I watch called Bold and the Beautiful. I think its good, people should live themselves outloud and proud.  We are all better for it.

Storming, Norming, Performing, and Adjourning.

Working in group can some times be very difficult. You have so many different personalities that you have to keep in consideration while trying to develop comment solution. Although when the chemistry is formed  a work group can be like a second family. High performing groups can be the hardest because of the level of involvement. High performing groups usually travel, eat together , even go over each others house to achieve the goal of the project. When that happens relationships are formed and a person began  to see there class mate or group mate as a freind.

Groups with the clearest established norms can be argued? A group with a goal to a vision in my opinion establish norms. If that really is that case then all groups in a way establish norms. I have always got alone with any group that I have participated in making it hard to leave or say good bye. Once its clear that everyone is working together, bonds starts to formulate among many members of the group. Chemistry is always formed as I state again friends are made that's why its hard to say goodbye. After the goal is  achieved closing rituals usually consist of a goodbye celebration. Simple gifts are exchanged, hugs and the statements of good luck are spoke to one another just in case we never saw each other again. Adjourning from the group of mastering students  would be nice if we all could get together and have our party and exchange our words of good luck. Adjourning is not not the essential stage of teamwork it is team work. If team work is not done then the objective was never complete and the people that where in the group that eventually left didn't adjourning they gave up. So to successful adjourn you first have to have something to adjourn from.

R*E*S*P*E*C*T

In every endeavor in life you are going to come into contact with different people different personalities.  Numerous of situations will occur in life and the out come depends upon you the individual on  how well you adapt right in the moment. Its one technique that will work with in every chapter of life. Rather you or rich or poor rather you work in a fortune 500 company or a standard 9 to 5 one technique will work in every encounter of life an that technique is respect.

I call the word respect a technique because it something that is hard for people to do at times. When we go the grocery strore or perhaps a restaurant what  makes that place your favorite. I have drove a few miles out of my way to go to a different grocery store or a different restaurant not necessary because of low prices or the best food it was because I was treat like a person treated with respect. Customer service and common curiosity is not skill its a choice. You the person choose to say good morning or thank you or yes please. Remembering the root of every problem or joyous outcome is depended upon how much respect is used. I have never had a problem with any of my co-workers or supervisor because I always taken respect in any arena of life. A person wants to be treat like a person respected as human being not a machine. A person wants to be treat as tho they are taken orders from themselves or better yet if someone was giving your mother order. If you knew the boss of your mother, how would you want them to threat her. I ask does anyone agree with me?

Commucations

Patience is something that I think is study by everyone everyday. Going to work stopping at a red light, standing in line for gas on a tired day, trying to pay your Comcast bill all are everyday things that us as individuals goes threw everyday commendation is exercised with a great deal patience to handle each issue. I get frustrated a lot of times if I am in a hurry and someone for whatever reason is holding me behind. I have stop and understand that they have there own world and concerns that they are dealing with as well. I try to communicate a friendlily if I make contact with anyone because my stress is no one else concerns.

Body Language can really make a difference to how a person perceives you. Imagine saying say yes but nodding your head no or tell someone I love you but have a stern mean look on your face the gesture wouldn't be interpreted the same. Usually whats on my mind bleeds threw with my actions. I have learn not to let me thoughts be seen because you never know the outcome of the situation at hand.

Imagine if know one helped the president with the delivery of a speech. Or your favorite athletic was never coached. Perhaps if feed back didn't exist there would be no Michael Jordan's or perfected State of the union address's. Feedback is hard it was something that I had to really get use to. Its hard to hear the things that you are not good at but maturity is hearing what you need to improve and perfecting what once was a weakness.
